Pandora and Last.FM harmony

Last night I had had a glass of wine or two and was thinking how nice it would be to use Pandora WITH Last.FM.

So I wrote Pandora an email:

Hello,
Just wondering if it were possible to get a sort of ‘feed’ of what I’m listening to at the moment - I would like to have what I’m listening to logged to my Last.FM profile (I know you probably see their site as competition… but I think they are both very different, they use collaborative filtering for their selection for example). Maybe you and Last.fm should come together in one big music loving fest. That would be awesome.
Anyway, please let me know if there is any way to extract the meta data (i.e. Artist, Title, Album) then perhaps I can write my own last.fm logger — unless you know of one?
Cheers
-Steve

Wasnt really expecting a response as I think my email was a little cheeky. But this morning…

Hi Steve,

Good news!
Yes, Pandora is compatible with Last.fm, via a third-party ‘mash-up’ called PandoraFM:
http://pandorafm.real-ity.com/

There’s a blog entry about PandoraFM here:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/04/21/update-on-pandoralastfm-mashup/

Note that PandoraFM is not directly supported by Pandora, but there are links to help files and user forums for PandoraFM at the main link above.

ps. As you may have gathered, we are not the kind of company that views other online music projects with suspicion. We think that there’s room at the table for all kinds of music services, and that the listener is the ultimate winner when a lot of people realize their ideas at the same time. You can see this attitude for yourself by the positive comment from our CTO, Tom C., on the PandoraFM home page.

Cheers right back atcha,

Ian @ Pandora Media
